Beemster Cheese: Made with Tradition and Care in the Beemster Polder

Beemster cheese is crafted in the heart of the Beemster polder, where our cheesemaking facility stands among the cows. For over 100 years, we have been making cheese using traditional methods. At our sustainable, climate-neutral facility, our cheesemakers blend modern techniques with artisanal craftsmanship, such as hand-stirring the curd.

 

This careful process takes more time but results in an exceptional, unique flavor and a smooth, creamy texture. Together with our 425 farmers in the cooperative, we manage every step of the process, from grass to cheese.

 

Thanks to our animal welfare program, our cows provide the highest quality milk. They graze freely for over 180 days a year, 10 hours a day—exceeding the meadow milk standard of 120 days for 6 hours.
