Sarirasa Boemboe Goelee: Authentic Indonesian Curry Base
Ingredients
• 500 grams chicken, beef, fish, or tofu/tempeh (cut into pieces)
• 1 pack Sarirasa Boemboe Goelee
• 2 tablespoons rice oil
• 200 ml coconut milk
• 250 ml water
Instructions
1. Prepare the protein
• For chicken or beef: Cook until lightly browned.
• For fish: Fry briefly, then set aside (add later to prevent overcooking).
• For tofu/tempeh: Fry until golden and crispy.
2. Sauté the spice mix
Heat 2 tablespoons of rice oil in a pan and sauté the Sarirasa Boemboe Goelee until aromatic.
3. Combine ingredients
Add the cooked chicken, beef, fish, or tofu/tempeh to the pan and stir well to coat with the spice mix.
4. Add liquids
Gradually pour in 250 ml of water and 200 ml of coconut milk, stirring continuously to create a smooth, creamy sauce.
5. Simmer
Reduce the heat and let the dish simmer until the meat is tender, or until the fish is just cooked through. Allow the sauce to thicken to your desired consistency.
Serving Tip
Serve Goelee with steamed rice and complement it with traditional sides like sambal, krupuk, or atjar. For a full Indonesian feast, pair it with dishes like Rendang, Sajoer Lodeh, or Sambal Goreng.
