Sarirasa Boemboe Rawon: Authentic Indonesian Black Beef Soup
Ingredients
• 500 grams beef (cut into chunks, preferably shank or brisket)
• 1 pack Sarirasa Boemboe Rawon
• 2 tablespoons rice oil
• 1.5 liters water
• Optional: boiled eggs, bean sprouts, fried shallots, lime wedges, and sambal for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the beef
• Heat 2 tablespoons of rice oil in a large pot. Sear the beef chunks until lightly browned. Remove and set aside.
2. Sauté the spice mix
In the same pot, sauté the Sarirasa Boemboe Rawon until aromatic.
3. Combine ingredients
Add the beef back to the pot and stir well to coat the meat evenly with the spice mix.
4. Add water
Pour in 1.5 liters of water and bring the soup to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer until the beef is tender and the flavors have infused, about 1.5 to 2 hours.
5. Adjust seasoning
Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning with salt or soy sauce, if needed.
Serving Tip
Serve Rawon hot with steamed rice and garnish with boiled eggs, bean sprouts, fried shallots, lime wedges, and sambal for added flavor. Pair it with Kroepoek or Sambal Goreng for a complete Indonesian meal.
