Sarirasa Boemboe Pepesan: Spicy Indonesian Steamed Fish
Ingredients
• 500 grams fish (mackerel, tuna, or salmon, cleaned and portioned)
• 1 pack Sarirasa Boemboe Pepesan
• 2 tablespoons rice oil
• 2 tomatoes (sliced)
• 2 tablespoons tamarind water (optional)
• Banana leaves or aluminum foil for wrapping
Instructions
1. Prepare the fish
Clean the fish, portion it into pieces, and pat it dry.
2. Sauté the spice mix
Heat 2 tablespoons of rice oil in a pan and sauté the Sarirasa Boemboe Pepesan until fragrant.
3. Coat the fish
Mix the spice paste with tamarind water (optional) and coat the fish pieces thoroughly with the mixture.
4. Wrap the fish
Place a slice of tomato and a piece of spiced fish onto a banana leaf or aluminum foil. Wrap tightly to create a sealed packet.
5. Steam or grill
• Steaming: Place the wrapped fish in a steamer and steam for 20–30 minutes until fully cooked.
• Grilling: Place the wrapped fish on a grill and cook for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
6. Serve
Unwrap the fish carefully and serve hot.

Pair Pepesan with steamed rice, sambal, and side dishes like Sajoer Lodeh or Atjar for a complete Indonesian meal.
