Sarirasa Boemboe Blado: Spicy Indonesian Braised Beef
Ingredients
• 500 grams beef (cut into chunks, preferably shank or brisket)
• 1 pack Sarirasa Boemboe Blado
• 2 tablespoons rice oil
• 250 ml water
• Optional: 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis)
Instructions
1. Prepare the beef
Heat 2 tablespoons of rice oil in a pan and sear the beef chunks until browned. Remove and set aside.
2. Sauté the spice mix
In the same pan, sauté the Sarirasa Boemboe Blado until fragrant.
3. Combine ingredients
Add the seared beef back to the pan and stir to coat the meat with the spice mix.
4. Add water
Pour in 250 ml of water, stirring to mix. For a slightly sweeter taste, add 2 tablespoons of sweet soy sauce (optional).
5. Simmer
Cover the pan and let the dish simmer on low heat for 1.5–2 hours, or until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened to a rich, spicy consistency.
Serving Tip
Serve Blado hot with steamed rice and sides like Atjar, Sambal Goreng, or Kroepoek. Pair it with other Indonesian dishes like Rendang or Sajoer Lodeh for a complete meal.
