Sarirasa Boemboe Semoor Djawa: Traditional Javanese Braised Beef
Ingredients
• 500 grams beef (cut into chunks)
• 1 pack Sarirasa Boemboe Semoor Djawa
• 2 tablespoons rice oil
• 3 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis)
• 250 ml water
Instructions
1. Prepare the beef
Heat 2 tablespoons of rice oil in a pan. Sear the beef chunks until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
2. Sauté the spice mix
In the same pan, sauté the Sarirasa Boemboe Semoor Djawa until fragrant.
3. Combine ingredients
Add the beef back to the pan and stir to coat the meat evenly with the spice mix.
4. Add liquids
Pour in 250 ml of water and 3 tablespoons of sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis). Stir well to combine all ingredients.
5. Simmer
Cover the pan and let the dish simmer on low heat for 1.5–2 hours, or until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened to a rich, flavorful gravy.
Serving Tip
Serve Semoor Djawa with steamed rice and traditional sides like sambal goreng, atjar, and krupuk. For a complete Indonesian feast, pair it with Sajoer Lodeh or Rendang using other Sarirasa spice mixes.
